Folbot Kiawah Portable Touring Kayak – Folding Frame Packable Design
10 in stock
I am selling a terrific pair of Folbot Touring Kayaks. The Kiawah (red/white, 12ft) and Cooper (orange/black, 16ft) models belonged to my Aunt and Uncle, who purchased them for recreational paddling in their retirement. Following unforeseen health issues, they were only used a handful of times -but always responsibly and with great care.
Folbot has been making foldable, portable, and easily storable kayaks for over 80 years. They use a special design with a durable synthetic skin that can be fully assembled in 15 minutes. I have included the manufacturer’s technical specifications and details for these specific models below.
The Kiawah is in GREAT condition with almost zero wear. The Cooper was definitely used more, and shows some scuffing around the bow (see picture). Each boat comes with its respective internal frame, external skin, and storage backpack, in addition to a padded seat, internal floaties, and canvas cover. I also have a patch kit from Folbot and a spray bottle of McNett’s UV Tech (protectant and rejuvenator for water gear).
Thanks for looking and please email with any questions, requests, high-res pics, etc.
This touring kayak is as light as they come. Perfect for day trips and weekend getaways, the Kiawah gets you there nice and easy.

Great Maneuverability — “Although it may not be quite as fast as the longer boats such as the Cooper over very long distances, I found the Kiawah to be incredibly maneuverable and durable. I was also a little skeptical about its stability at first, but after 5 consecutive days of at least 6 hours a day in the boat, it easily stayed upright even in big storm swells!” – Anonymous Person
love this boat — “this is a great boat! assembly is fun and straightforward. boat is easy to transport and is light enough for a fit 60ish female to carry and lift easily. comfortable and stable to paddle.” — Anonymous Person from Falmouth, MA
New Kiawah! — “Love my new boat. Ashley was great, giving my husband and I a tour of the Folbot factory when we visited Charleston this Spring. That was amazing. Ashley also helped us put some Folbots together, Cooper and Kiawah, and paddled with us so we could get a feel for each craft. She answered every question possible. My Kiawah is beautifully crafted, stable and since I can put it in my Prius, it doesn’t get much better than that. I will need some time to get the assembly down to 10-15 minutes but I am confident about that. My two requests are: put a copy of the PDF instructions in with the new boat plus include a link or a DVD of someone putting a boat together in real time. The stern assembly is easy but many of us are assembly challenged and getting that part right needs a video description. I finally found one on YouTube but I had to search for a while. I will be a great salesperson for Folbot as there are no dealers in Maine.” — MP from Bangor, ME
The ultimate touring kayak; fast and athletic. The Cooper combines high payload capacity for extra gear with a long, thin water line for higher speeds.

Excellent Kayak — “I took this kayak on a five day trip and it was awesome! Once you get the hang of setting it up it is no big deal. I was impressed by the portability and by the capacity for putting gear inside and on top. I will say that I had to be cautious when running up to concrete landings but it is still tough and I had no problems with it. Overall it was a great trip and provided an easy set up and break down.” — Bennett Dixon from Johns Island, SC
True to Their Word — “I bought my Cooper a year ago, and have already logged over a 150 hours of paddling time with it. I’ve done everything from short day paddles to a 2.5 week 350 mile expedition. I’ve used it on rivers, estuaries, marshes, and lakes ranging from a few square miles to over 31000 sq mi. Folbot’s Cooper is exactly what it advertises to be. It is a reliable, skin-on-frame, foldable kayak. It is designed to fill a specific niche; it is not a substitute for a rigid hull kayak, nor is it a fancy inflatable. As a kayak, I find it remarkably stable; it tracks well, and is quite comfortable. Yet one of its best selling points is undoubtedly its customer service. They have listened to my complaints, responded to my questions, sent additional parts for free, and have worked with me on every detail no matter how minor. Anybody who seriously contemplates buying a vessel they will trust their lives to cannot underestimate the value of a company that stands so fully behind their work.” — Peter Hach from Nicaragua
Love My Cooper — “Now that I’ve finally learned how to put it together quickly, I love this boat. (It took a little longer than I’d hoped to get comfortable with the assembly. . .but I am NOT good at following instructions!) It’s easy and fun to paddle, stable but responsive. And it looks great! :)” – Anonymous Person from NY
Great Conversational Piece — “My Cooper is very sturdy and strong. It handles bigger waves effortlessly, is great for practicing self-rescues, reliable, very fast, excellent in rivers and oceans, and turns easily despite its length. It’s a great conversational piece because people just love watching it being built and think it is the coolest thing ever.” — Sabrina from Courtenay, BC, Canada
